I am on H4 visa, based in Georgia. Did anyone get Change of Maiden Name to Married Name done on passport from Indian Consulate Houston, TX.
Can anyone tell me what am I supposed to write in the Surname column in the new online application form ? The old application had 2 columns, 1 for maiden name and the other for Desired Name, but the new online application form has only 1 Surname column. I am confused as to what should I write my maiden name or my married name. I do have the notarization done on the affidavit form. Does this give me the right to write my married name ? Which name should I sign in the application- maiden or married name?
AlsoI have heard that anybody submitting Change of Maiden Name to Married Name application in person, to Indian Consulate Houston, has to collect the new passport at the counter in person, the passport will not be mailed to him/her. The passport is only sent by mail to those who have sent the documents to Indian Consulate Houston by mail.
Is it true?

Some paras from Securing Iraq Votes, One at a Time (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/10/AR2007031001300.html) -- House Democratic Leaders Methodically Build Support for War Plan
By Jonathan Weisman, Washington Post Staff Writer, Sunday, March 11, 2007
Rep. Jerry Nadler was the only lawmaker at a meeting of all House Democrats on Thursday to stand up and declare that he could not support a compromise plan to fund the Iraq war with a timeline to end the conflict. So some party leaders had written him off even as he joined House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a private meeting.
In the confines of the speaker's suite, Nadler (N.Y.) could be specific. He sought assurances from Pelosi (Calif.) that President Bush would be compelled to withdraw all troops from combat by August 2008, as the legislation proposed. He wanted to know: "What is the legal compulsion to follow this timeline?"
A Pelosi aide disappeared from the meeting for a few minutes and returned with a few lines of legislative text offering what Nadler wanted to hear: Once troops are out of Iraq, no money would be available to put them back in, outside the narrow exceptions of targeted counterterrorism operations, embassy protection and efforts to train Iraqis.
"You know," Nadler said after a pause, "I think that's okay."
Nadler's conversion was a sign of the member-by-member, slow but deliberate headway Democratic leaders say they are making in their efforts to cobble together the 218 supporters they need to pass one of the most consequential pieces of defense legislation in decades, a $105 billion war-funding bill that would impose strict standards of rest and readiness for the military, establish clear benchmarks for the government of Iraq and set a timeline to end U.S. involvement in the war.
Through closed-door meetings, pep rallies, private phone conversations and horse trading, Democratic leaders are moving outward from the 180 solid votes in the party's political center to win the votes on the party's left and right that will be needed to pass the bill later this month.
The cajoling will continue tomorrow as lawmakers return to Washington and the legislation is readied for markup later in the week. But there are roadblocks: Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.) said some conservatives are withholding their support until the language McDermott wanted is removed.
As Democratic leaders balance those demands, the calculus is fairly straightforward, said one conservative Democrat involved in the process. Leaders are counting on winning all but a dozen of the 43 conservative Blue Dog Democrats and all but a dozen of the 75 or so members of the liberal Out of Iraq Caucus. Then, Democratic leaders are hoping, enough Republicans will break ranks to put them over the top.
By last week's end, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) said, they had secured about 200 votes.
But the last 18 votes will not be easy. That point was brought home Thursday morning, during the closed-door meeting in which the legislation was detailed for Democratic members. As Pelosi gave her pitch, Reps. Lynn Woolsey (Calif.), Barbara Lee (Calif.), Lloyd Doggett (Tex.) and Nadler stood up to leave for a news conference of their own. After an uncomfortable pause, Pelosi growled that she wished Democrats would be courteous enough to hear her out before talking to the media. Nadler sat down. The rest walked out.
Democratic aides concede that some party members, including Woolsey, Lee and Doggett, are all but lost. But they are not giving up.
"There's nothing guaranteed in life, but I feel very good," Emanuel said.

Todays New York Times brims with immigration dysfunctions galore. The paper's immigration reports tellingly underscore the front-burner role this white-hot policy issue plays in the nation and the world. In the first section alone, we see: An open-mike faux pas by British PM Gordon Brown, referring to an immigration opponent as a bigoted woman, prompted his abject apology and now risks a Labor Party loss in the UK election next week; A controversial opinion piece and articles on the political, legal and economic fallout of the Arizona Peace-Officers Suspect-and-Arrest-or-Refrain-and-Be-Sued Act; A report on four Dream Act marchers...

British-born Stan Brock is the founder of Remote Area Medical (RAM), a non-profit health care company that has helped organize volunteer physicians, eye doctors, dentists and support staff to set up weekend-long events in large venues that offer vital health care services to the poor and uninsured. RAM has hosted 581 events and treated more than 500,000 people with the volunteer services of 45,000 health care professionals. According to Business TN Magazine: RAM is largely supported by small donations, and volunteers pay their own travel, lodging and food expenses. While many patients seen at these events are local, it's not...

My lawyer selected option "a" in section 2 of I-485 for I-140/I-485 filed concurrently. Some members are saying that their lawyer selected option "h". Can some one tell me what must be the correct option for concurrent filing? If option h is correct, Is it possible to amend the existing petition?
Thanks!!

Hi all,
I need an urgent advice. on April 4th I started a new job in a good size company (200+ employers). 2 week before starting the job, I had sent the company all the information required to transfer the visa (paystubs, etc etc) and they confirmed that everything was fine.
Last week (Apr 27th) I have been asked by the Payroll company to provide copy of the I-797 to attach to the I-9. I contacted the company's immigration lawyer and he stated that they filed the transfer on Apr, 26th (3 weeks after i started working for them) and he should have the receipt shortly. This caught me off guard because I was sure they already filed the application before I started working for them. I am really concerned now as I believe I am out of status (or I have been for 3 weeks).
Should I be worried? what's your take on this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am on H1b visa and it is expiring on Sep 2010. I heard that we need to apply for renewal 3 months before the expiry date,(i.e,June). I am planning to transfer my H1 to another employer. If I do so, will my H1 be automatically renewed during the transfer process? Also, If I transfer my H1 and go out of the country, do I need to get my visa stamping re-done when I come back to the country...
Thanks

I'm in the 8th year of H1-B, BEC priority date 04/2001, just got a notice that the case was closed ?? and the lawyer is working to reopen the case.
I have now a very good opportunity to work for another company, huge pay and benefits, a lot of pressure from this company to work for them.
Pls who can answer 2 small questions:
1. Do I have a chance to work for this company?
2. It makes a difference if I'm currently in NJ and this new company is in Utah - thinking that maybe they are not so many applicants in that state? Just for the LC processing speed?
Thanks a lot.
