yabadaba, we will always have tough opposition when we try to do something. Your op-ed was very good and some people could not swallow it. You know some people can't imagine anyone from your country having good english! All these media efforts help us raise awareness, send our message across to the masses to counter anti immigrant propaganda. Due to our press coverage lawmaker offices too have started to take us seriously. Thanks to you and other IV members that are constantly helping this organization in media efforts, whether it is as small as writing emails, getting interviewed or writing articles. All these media successes are on zero budget. All IV members are our PR agents and PR firms.Thanks.

I don't think anybody can predict EB-3 India as it is a lost cause (sorry for being pessimistic). The only way EB-3 India will see any meaningful progress is through legislation.
I don't understand why EB3-I is a lost cause. Isn't the percentage distribution for the various categories taken into account? I don;t think I understand how the percentage distrubution works probably. Can anyone please explain?

Generally Numbers dont lie (except Satyam) and I havent heard anything in Congress that may be remotely close to passing that may change the landscape for EB folks and therefore am guessing that they have not really been intimated on any urgent action to be done within next few months for something looming.
Who knows, maybe Obama is preparing for CIR 2009 now. Before CIR he maybe planning to push all legal EB cases. Remember July 2007 fiasco happened in the backdrop of CIR 2007.

Instead of hiring a full time lobbyist why dont we hire a full time manager who will contact IV members and drive funding drives , organize campaigns , send and spam USCIS with emails flowers and faxes and keep it moving. I agree with those who say that giving green cards to the three hundred thousand wannabe immigrants will not turn the economy around tomorrow, and perhaps in the short period there doesn't seem to be an apparant advantage. After all, these are the cash cows that are milked everyday by way of taxes and the ever increasing USCIS fees.
However, it is important to consider the larger picture with a view on the next few years. Even if a few thousand people go and buy a house, it will make a difference to the local community, however small it may be. If a few thousand people are able to start their own business, it will lead to the creation of a few more thousand jobs, which is still better than the current number - zero. Even if a few thousand decide to get a higher education, or get promoted, America will be richer in the quality of its people by those many, however small that number may be. And I bet thousands of those high skilled immigrants will demand a higher salary which which will not only level the playing field, but also result in higher pay. And need I mention the effect of higher salaries on the propensity to consume?
I haven't even gotten into the social advantages of having a home where both parents are able to think and work freely, and the effect that has on the upbringing of their children (more than likely US citizens).
Now, what does it really cost the US govt./America to give out the green card? As far as the issue of social security is concerned, these wannabes will be eligible anyway after 10 years, whether they have a green card or not. The USCIS fees for renewal is a about a $1000 per year, which pales in comparison to the the new car that I will buy :) What else, lawyer fees? People are worried about lawyers being displaced! You got to be kidding - immigration law is not the only kind of law practiced in this part of the world. I would be worried more for them if Americans decided not to get divorced.
So, my question is:
Do the costs of giving out green cards to high skilled professionals really outweigh some the benefits mentioned above?
I don't see any good arguments for not giving out a green card sooner than later. And if there aren't any tangible benefits in keeping three hundred thousand people in limbo, then America is losing out on the advantages it will have by making them permanent residents.

Agenda of lobbying remains same. It doesn't change weeky/monthly or even annually. Country quotas, increase in EB gc numbers, portability issues. It is also on IV website. Please look. No more details other than that will be made available, unless a bill is on the floor, thats when you see the results. Results are hard to come by. Core cannot reveal roadblocks or mini successes as these are all detrimental to the effort.

If a majority of members on IV are not in support of your idea, would you agree that its not fair to organize these kind of things on IV forum? I can imagine how hard it was for the people to bring this organization to this stage. While you haven't contributed much, you are trying to break it up for your own selfish reasons. Unless india address issues of Population Growth ( now it is hard to walk in many places in big cities), Morality of the Peoples (govt can not do any thing about this, we as a people always take shortcuts aslong as it does not affect us personally !!!) Broken Judicial system ( Recent statement of supreme court tells they have enough court case to deal per judge for next few decades !!) Purity of air, water,milk, Increasing corruption and detoriation in quality of education (because of priviatization we have engineering , pharmacy and other technical education colleges in every village, 95% of them dont have faculty, labs etc and only care for profit, you can graduate as long as you pay fee for admission and pay fee for their annual due) (that is why our 90% of engineers are UNEMLOYABLE) THERE ARE many other issues to list here but all we know
If you go to our home country for short visit, you will probably like it , if you stay there more than three months and try to settle there again, you will start comparing all above to US and might feel that you made wrong choice of abondoning your GC process

Prices double evey day. I dont know how local middle class which hardly make 2-3 lac per year can afford such properties.

You will always face morality issue, duplicity in the people (what they talk and what they act, it is hard to trust) also artificial and selfish nature of so called social relations in home country (of which all we are proud of some how ) I find people and social relation here more frank and trust worthy (they are more open and close to reality) then our social structure where evry one try to take advantage of other some how under the so called social relations
So think three time about all these issue of long term before you try to abondon your GC process. All these isssues you will be facing in our home country no matter how much money you make. On long term your choice might hurt you. If you are fed up with immigration issues here try to open up other avenues for you along with this country.

There are issues in india , but i have seen many people going back , and settling without any problems. The choice to move is more personal , then what could be discussed here ..
I was in India recently for a 2 months vacation, and some work from our Indian office,. First few days were tough , lot of dust , traffic , pollution, But after 2 weeks i was loving it the old way .. and when i was flying back i realized I love Delhi .
If you own a house in the major cities ( ie lot of jobs and business opportunities) then going back makes sense. But if you belong to a small city , and have to move to a bigger city anyway, then living here makes more sense.
The reality (which is bad) is that if you have money in india , your life style is much better than what u have in US (dont forget , even earning 100K, doesn't really make u rich here , Honda and Toyota are poor people's car in US.. I have seen very few EB applicants driving a BMV,Bentley)
When i was in India, i went to best hotels for food (2000Rs buffets) virtually every week.,just went to NY once for a 200$ buffet, in 6 years.
So everyone has to take a personal decision, based on personal factors..

Thanks sy. I fully agree it's the agent we deal with. My BOA loan coordinator is extremely stubborn & doesn't have any clue regarding immigration. From day 1 she is stuck on unexpired I-94 & till today she asks me to furnish that. I would say fight back against the indirect discrimination against the Indian and Chinese nationals in the employment-based immigration.
If they want us to leave..then so be it..but they should say so directly. All India and Chinese EB immigrants please leave USA. Until that comes out of the US government directly, we can not be forced out through indirect policies.
Here are a few things you can do:
1) Withdraw all the $ you deposited in US banks from savings, checking, CDs and other investment accounts and setup an NRE account with an indian bank and move funds over. If you need you can bring back those funds in a day or two. Leave only bare minimum for your expenses in US banks. This would have an impact of ~$50K X 100K effect.
2) Do not leave the country just because the hopes of greencard are controlled, sqeeze out every $ from your jobs and economy as long as you are here.
3) Spend minimum and buy swadeshi when possible. Lets not give back even 10% of the income we make back into the economy. This is an economic blockade.
USCIS and US government has long harassed Indians in the name of greencard for a longtime and year after year we hear the same BS. Come on people, show some self-respect and fight back.
4) Those who are in foreclosure, stop paying your mortgage, your home is going to get foreclosed anyway.
5) Despite all this...those who still decide to leave to India, max out all your credit cards, leave your car in airport and abandon your home/apt without paying rent/mortgage for the few months before you leave.
TAKE all you can from your hard-lived and harassed lives out of this place before you do decide to move.
I am not keeping more than 5K in any of my US banks starting today. I am also pulling back from my mortgage application for 300K condo. I am determined to sell-off my investments in equities here and begin investing in BSE.
That is the least I could do to peacefully protest against the discrimination against me and my country people.

Last week I went to Trenton with H1 extension receipt (original), letter from employer, but in vain. They need approved docs. Luckily this week I got the H1 extended and today I carried the original approved H1 I-797A and got the DL extended. I got only 2 years H1/DL extension after 6 year completion with I-140 approved and 485 in progress. Fyi
