And the purge continues... First Minutemen founder Chris Simcox goes after John McCain. From Politico: A co-founder of the anti-immigration Minutemen on Monday dismissed Sen. John McCains new, tougher immigration stance as 'shameful election-year politics.' The Arizona Republican, whos seeking a fifth term this fall, is now supporting an Arizona bill that allows law enforcement officers to demand proof of citizenship even if they just suspect illegal status and detain suspects until the federal authorities can determine their citizenship. McCains move, announced Monday, is a dramatic shift right from his more moderate, comprehensive approach to most immigration issues....

SKIL provisions were included in S.2611 by the way of adopting manager's ammendment.
Therefore the official death of the CIR bill was crucial for the fate of the SKIL bill, as it couldn't be picked up by the Senate as long as the CIR was pending with the House.

A fat report and one with some helpful recommendations and statistics. Here are some of the more interesting items I found - - Of the top 150 H-1B employers, 24 were deemed H-1B dependent (a high percentage of workers on the H-1B) and 9 had prior H-1B violations. - Real earnings growth for US workers in occupations with proportionately more H-1B workers - particularly IT - was actually much stronger than the general US worker. - Engineers and IT professionals on H-1Bs were more than twice as likely as their US counterparts to have advanced degrees. - The proportion of...

    Hello,
Got H1B this year via consultant, valid from Oct 1st to 2010. Applied for AOS(dervative) and got EAD, AP and I-485 receipt notice by Oct end. So I think my status is AOS now.
I haven't been put on project yet.
Planning to travel next month using AP.
On return I plan to find another job using EAD.

I wanted to know if and how using AP to re-enter effects H1B status.
Also will this "bench" period effect GC processing in anyway?

Thanks so much for your replies..
Also i would appreciate if gurus could suggest what documents to carry to show at POE, along with AP.

    Thanks again!!!

Processing of 140 applications in NSC now takes 9 to 12 months . The movement of dates only will make things worse for processing of all the applications.

Hope it does not take more than a year for AP and EAD ...

Opinion polling data clearly shows a public ready for immigration reform. But for those who don't believe those polls, a much more interesting one may be the polling of television viewers - the ratings. And they are telling a very interesting story. Lou Dobbs - the public face of the anti-immigrants - is getting CREAMED in the ratings and is no longer the CNN darling who could say the most ridiculous things on the air and get away with them because he delivered the numbers. From Walter Shapiro: Another symbol of softening attitudes may be found in of all...

my husband's h1 ext is approved.
my h1 to h4 cos is still pending. If we go to canda for his h1 stamping and my h4 stamping with my h4 filing papers ( i-539) and receipt notice and come back to usa with successfull stampings, how will uscis know that i travelled to a consulate and got h4 stamping done.
Will they still continue to process my h4.
Do i have to inform uscis after I come back to usa of my successful stamping.
what should I expect on my pending case once i come back.
    Thanks

From Walter Ewing at the Immigration Policy Center: It would seem that the Center for Immigration Studies has decided to jump on the talk-radio bandwagon of far-right commentators who are loudly attempting to derail substantive health care reform through fear-mongering and falsehoods . Although CIS has so far steered clear of the baseless rants about death panels and socialized medicine, it has issued a new report that seeks to buttress an equally farcical claim: that health care reform will leave American taxpayers footing the bill for millions of unauthorized immigrants who will receive federally subsidized health insurance. Specifically, the report...

In case some of you are not able to figure it out, here it is

Please note that the purpose of our forums is to discuss our campaign and agenda. We want to foster a positive, constructive, discussion about our cause. Solutions for individual cases and problems, debates on the benefits of living in different countries etc. are better addressed on forums like Immigration Portal.

Posts that denigrate members, potential members or even anti-immigrant groups are not welcome - such posts are against Immigration Voice principles.

Readers have been sending me the best links. Here's one from the latest issue of Newsweek: As the white house revives immigration reforman issue the president is discussing with congressional leadersit may want to ponder the effects of curbing foreign labor. While immigrants are blamed for dragging down American wages and stealing jobs, University of California, Davis, economist Giovanni Peri comes to a different conclusion. In a National Bureau of Economic Research working paper, Peri trowels through nearly five decades of immigration data and finds that foreign workers have boosted the economy, jacking up average income without crowding out American...

I am currently in L1B status and filed for AOS (I-140/I-485) in July 2007. My I-140 was approved last week and 180 days of pending I-485 are also over. My question is whether there is a huge risk involved in porting to a new employer using EAD, particularly because I do not have any other safety net like H1-B status. I understand, in case of I-485 denial, I will not have any other option to fall back upon. But if USCIS mistakenly issues a NOID or denial for some strange reason, would I have any other option to appeal without going out of country. Can I continue appealing such a potential denial from outside of USA and come if they reopen the case.

More specifically, I have heard some of the AC21 cases have been mistakenly denied or a NOID issues due to ignorant USCIS immigration officer. Can something be done to revive the AOS when there is no backup option like H1B? Would that action needs to be continued from outside of USA or can be done here itself.
